Services

SWCHS offers services for the sheltering of stray, abandoned and ownerless pets. We do not have a veterinarian on staff and rely on partnerships with other facilities to meet the needs of the animals in our custody. For this reason we follow a program called Shelter Medicine. We only have the staffing and the resources to treat medical conditions if symptoms are present.

Adoption

Our Adoption fees include spay/neuter before adoption in order to make efforts to help reduce pet over-population. We administer core vaccines, microchipping, and any additional care we have capacity to provide in order to achieve adoptable wellness. Our care primarily serves stray animals and when our capacity allows, extends to service area surrendered pets. Municipal contracts often determine what sheltering capacity we have for animals in various service areas.

Municipal Contracts

Contracts with the municipalities have legal requirements that determine when and how SWCHS becomes involved with the care of an animal. Some may require the police department or Town Chairperson to be directly and solely involved. Others require SWCHS to maintain available spaces for the municipality. Not all municipalities have contracts and as a result SWCHS has no service area for certain municipalities. SWCHS must honor our legal obligations as well as maintain appropriate capacity limits in order to humanely handle the pets that do arrive to our care. We provide contact information for various outside resources upon request and appreciate when our community understands the limitations of our resources and capacities.

Microchipping

We are happy to offer microchipping to the public. Please contact us at 715-423-0505 to book your appointment. The current fee for microchipping is $30 per pet.

Spaying and Neutering

We do not have any veterinarian on staff, therefore we are not able to offer spaying and neutering to the public.
