Microchipping

Microchipping is the noninvasive procedure of inserting a microchip under an animal’s skin using a syringe. A microchip is a small identification tag, smaller than a grain of rice, that is inserted under the skin of an animal. This process is no more painful to the animal than a vaccination. No surgery or anesthesia is required.

Microchips contain a unique number that is registered to the owner. Scanning the microchip only reveals that number. No other information is shared by scanning the microchip. This unique number is then referenced to look up the owner information in the registry. It is important to keep this information current so your pet remains safe. All animals adopted through SWCHS have been microchipped.

We offer microchipping by appointment, call us today to book a time/day that accommodates your schedule.
