Volunteer Opportunities

The shelter functions thanks to many volunteers. Without the help of volunteers the shelter wouldn't be able afford to provide such a service.

Volunteer opportunities range from special events, walking animals, grooming, and much more. Volunteer today and support your local humane society.

Become a Friend of the Humane Society
photo Attend regularly scheduled meetings the second Tuesday of every month at 5:15 p.m. This is a group of concerned citizens who volunteer time and ideas in support of the SWCHS. Initiatives are to promote and aid the welfare of stray and unwanted animals and increase public awareness. Fundraising activities are planned by the group to help subsidize the SWCHS. Anyone interested in volunteering their ideas and time is encouraged to join. For meeting location please contact the shelter. Also, questions can be directed to Catina at 423-0505 or cstoflet@swchs.com.

Cat Socialization
Spend quality time with our shelter cats. This special one-on-one time out of their cage allows for playtime, grooming and treats. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by a parent. Cat socialization may be done anytime during shelter business hours.

Change for a Chance
Rustle up pocket change for the SWCHS by taking responsibility for placing and collecting money from Change for a Chance cans at your favorite neighborhood stops. Permission is sought from business owners and arrangements are then made regarding how money will be collected. Spare change can go a long way! Please contact the shelter at 423-0505 if you are interested in being a Change for a Chance volunteer collector.

Dog Walker
photo We are in great need of walkers. On average we house 15-20 dogs at the shelter. Regular exercise is important for both humans and animals. A walker provides each dog at our shelter the opportunity to get out and stretch their legs, play and obtain a bit of training. Walkers may volunteer anytime during shelter business hours. By donating even a half hour once or twice a week, you can help make the stay of a shelter dog more enjoyable until a new home for him or her can be found. For safety reasons, walkers must be at least 16 years old or have an adult with them.

Professional Skills
Persons with professional skills willing to donate their services are sought for ongoing shelter maintenance projects. Skills include painting, electrical, carpentry, and etc.
